Meet our First Grade Team

Katy JensenKaty Jensen

Mrs. Jensen has been an educator in Pocatello for over 16 years. She is native of Pocatello and graduated from ISU in 2002. Mrs. Jensen began her teaching career as a substitute teacher in 2003 and then became a kindergarten teacher at Indian Hills in 2004. The next year, Mrs. Jensen transferred to Gate City in 2005 where she continued teaching kindergarten until 2012.  Then, she graduated to first grade. Mrs. Jensen loves working with the younger learners because she never knows what might happen each day, which makes for a very unpredictable, fun-loving environment.

Mrs. Jensen comes from a family of teachers and is married with two sons. She loves to read, garden, craft, go boating and spend time with family.

Krissy IwakiriKristena Iwakiri

Mrs. Iwakiri has taught in the first grade for over 10 years.  She attended ISU for her education degree.  She worked at Washington Elementary for 7 years and then moved up to Gate City.  Mrs. Iwakiri has a passion to teach kids how to read and how to become a successful learner.  When asked about her favorite part about teaching first grade she said "When they walk into my classroom at the beginning of the year they are very much like a kindergartner still,  they are very dependant on me.  I love watching them become a reader, to watch them take control of their learning, and become more independent.   It is so fun to watch the transformation in each of the kids. "

Shelby Campbell

Miss. Campbell just recently moved to Pocatello, Idaho from Eugene, Oregon where she was born and raised. Miss. Campbell graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from Corban University and is excited to start her teaching career at Gate City Elementary! She is excited to watch each student blossom into independent readers, thinkers, and problem-solvers. Her hobbies include: spending time with her family, gardening, reading, art crafts, and baking. She cannot wait to meet each and every one of her students and welcome them into the new school year!
